Association

2006 HNA picnic at McClelland Park
Formed in 1997, the Highlawn Neighborhood Association is a voluntary group of neighbors dedicated to preserving the Highlawn as a desirable place to live, learn, work, and play. It’s our goal to cooperatively and collaboratively work wtih the City of Huntington to address public health, safety, cleanliness, and recreation in our neighbrohood.
The Association includes over 150 families who meet monthly and work together on projects including neighborhood clean-up and beautification projects, community building projects, and safety and security projects.
Located on the east side of Huntington, our riverside community is home to stately homes, two parks, nine churches, three schools, Marshall University, and Cabell County Board of Education. We’re proud to host more than one hundred businesses, including ACF, Champion Industries, Rubberlite, Flint Group, and St. Mary’s Medical Center.
St. Mary’s: The St. Mary’s “Green Team” will soon be sending employees out into the neighborhood to pick up litter and get fit. When you see them, acknowledge them and thank them for helping us keep Highlawn clean!
HNA Priority Issues
Each year we discuss ideas, projects, and issues that are effecting our Neighborhood. Then we prioritize them as a group. The focus for 2009 is crime, safety, alley/street cleaning, park improvements, dilapidated properties and school closings.
Crime and Safety the Safe Neighborhood Team works proactively to ensure we maintain a neighborhood safe. The program also runs workshops focused on educating people about Safety and City Services. For more information see the Neighborhood Watch Sections or contact Thomas McChesney.
